About Ana Wood

​

   Ana Wood is a Newmarket-based visual artist, a graduate of OCAD University with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. Through her work she is pursuing connecting people back to nature and culture. The themes in her work are derived from her previous works of bringing forth ties to being an adopted Guatemalan born child now living in Canada. 

​

​"There was something truly cathartic about stripping images down to their simplest forms and then building them back up again; collage was the perfect metaphor for what I was also doing with my life [...] So I had fully realized that collage was the medium in which I need to work [...] a highly personal form of expression, one that felt innately natural to me. It was the perfect representation of me on a page: both raw and refined" (Klanten 1)

   Other works in Wood's practice involve landscapes, collage and abstract works. As well as playing with the visual effects and juxtaposition of natural forms with geometrics and the tendencies for art and craft to be evaluated differently, in her work she merges them to blend the lines of these separate representations.
